The sun rode high in the sky, pulsing the first real heat of spring down to the horses who roamed the lands. One such horse was walking calmly through a dense forest path, not looking for trouble or trying to stir the world into a boiling mess as most studs do. He was content with his life, for the first time in months he had a mare who followed him. He could claim a land and find more mares, have a harem. That was the first step to absolute power. Right then, the dark stallion with red eyes was plotting his way to the top rather than imagining himself there. His dam had once said that "You can dream of your future for so long, but then you have to act on those dreams."Flint was done dreaming. He wandered down the thin path and thought deeply. He had a mare to his name right now and while it was more than he had a claim to in a long while, it was not much. The next step would be to stake a claim on land. That would be tricky though. He needed somewhere that was going to be able to house many horses through the long winter months and provide sufficient nutrients for foal growing inside and outside their mothers wombs.
He was kind of looking at his surroundings, but his thoughts were turned inwards, not noticing the grouse watching him from a tree. The little brush bird screeched a warning at him to stay clear and took off through the canopy of forest. Flint shook his large head and walked on, already back in the world of plots. When he had the right piece of land, more mares would be needed. They would come pretty easily if there was anything to be said from his past experience. The mares had flocked to him once. When he had land and power. Now he was on his way again. When he had a herd and enough power, he would challenge other stallions for their mares and foals, make sure his fighting skills weren't too rusty before he tried for the ultimate power. It was odd to even think the words, but they came and the stallion let them drop from his tongue. "And then I will challenge the King himself," Speaking the words alone was a rush. He could have power over everyone if he won that battle.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, Flint came to and blinked at the sudden bright light. When his eyes adjusted, he saw that he had reached the other side of the forest and stepped back into the sun. What the flaming ball of heat revealed though was the most amazing thing the red eyes had ever seen. The ground at his feet fell away sharply, but he thought that he saw a goat trail down. At the bottom of the sheer drop was endless fields of green rolling grass. A wide river ran through the middle on it and when Flint made his way to the bottom, he saw that there were several large caves near the ground in the cliff face. The river was wide, but it was shallow and slow. The water was clear at crystal and pure right through. There was a dozen huge trees that gave enough shade to protect twenty or more horses from the heat of summer or the ice storms of winter. It was perfect!"I lay claim to this land. Let any Bastard stupid enough to challenge me come forth," The words came in a whisper, but it seemed to resonate through the valley. Suddenly, almost as an afterthought, Flint reared and screamed to the sky, sending hundreds of birds wheeling and plunging through the air. The sound held no words but the meaning was unmistakable.
OOC:Wow, really proud of this post! My muse is sky high! It's late though so I am going to leave it on a high note. Just a side note if you are interested, (and I'm not bragging) but that took me only ten minutes to write out!
