Vitam Novam is a fantasy horse RPG, and focuses on users implementing their imagination to create a fun, expressive roleplay. Vitam Novam is not meant to be intimidating, challenging, or stressful—there is no complex site wide plot or strict, overbearing rules. Instead, VN takes a different route; freelance writing based on a common knowledge history and regulations. Yes, you read that correctly. Your writing, plotting, or threading does not have to follow a site wide plot, but rather your horses will have a common history of their homeland and the drama that created it. From there, it's up to you to create a bewitching story between your characters, plot with other people on the site, and enchant members with your literary skills and complex and deep relationships.
Your characters will live on the landmass of Finibus, and island located in the cold, blue Caesitas Ocean. Finibus is made up of many different types of environments, ranging from a teeth-chattering, bone chilling tundra to a relaxing, tropical paradise—and everything in-between! As far as the horses know it, Finibus has been around since the beginning of time, but the exact age of the land is not truly known. Finibus experiences the four regular seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Your characters will have to survive these seasons and all their repercussions, finding food, shelter, and friendship! The following information you're about to read will help you on your writing adventure.
HORSES OF FINIBUS- The horses of Finibus are beautiful, mythical creatures. The majority of the population are horses, but with coins you can purchases different species such as pegasi, unicorns, donkeys, zebras, or mules. Your character can be any color in the rainbow. Want a cotton candy pink horse with a beautiful blue mane and tail? Right on.
- The equine on Finibus have no knowledge of humans whatsoever. To them, human have never existed, which—in its own right—is true.
- The maximum age your character can live is 25, and he or she must be dead by the 26th birthday.
- There are no breeds on Vitam Novam, just types—hot blooded, cold blooded, and warm blooded.
- Stallions are male horses over the age of 3. Geldings, on the other hand, are male horses who have been neutered. (Please note, if you plan on having a gelding, his neutering must be natural... obviously!) A colt is a young male horse.
- Mares are female horses over three. A filly is a young female horse.
- A sire is the male parent. A dame is the female parent.
- Horses age yearly by the season they were born in. If your horse was born in summer, then he or she will age the following summer. A season lasts for two weeks, meaning that a year on Vitam Novam will be eight weeks, or approximately two months.
- The horses on here are not invincible, nor do they have magical powers or special abilities. Lights and darks do not exist.
- All equine of Finibus have a common knowledge of the history of their homeland. If they don't, they better have a reason why that you'll have to explain in your character's history!
- Your character has to have came from Finibus. End of story.
FIGHTING RULES- After the in-thread debacle that caused the posting of a challenge (whether it be stealing a mare, land, or just fighting because you're pissed as hell) the challenger must post his or her rules and terms. These are the terms that must be decided:
Attacks: choose a number 1 out of 10 for the amount each horse will have Dodges: must be half out of total attacks Misses: must be one quarter of total attacks Fatal Y/N: does the loser die? Prize: the winner's prize ;D
- Both stallions and mares may fight.
- A staff member must approve the terms before the fight can begin.
- The winner will be decided by staff and will be judged depending on grammar, quality, style, flow, and pure, raw character emotion and tactical ability.
- Not all fights have to have to have a prize; they can justify a argument, a past tension, etc...
CLAIMING/TERRITORIES- Only stallions can lay claim to other horses or land. That's just how it works. Sorry! Mares, however, can hold second-in-command ranks or assist a stallion in his lead.
- Claimable lands lie in the Central Herdlands. Originally, the lands are titled as "Territory Slot" with a blank description. Upon first claim, the user can choose the name of the land and the description. If someone were to steal this territory, they hold the power to change the name, but not the description. Once the description is made, it is set in stone.
- To claim a territory, simply post a claiming thread in the desired land of your choice. A staff member will judge your claim not only on its composition, but its grammar, spelling, style, and whether or not it was pleasant to read. Not just anyone can have a territory! If your claim was accepted, PM Arrow your land's statistics!
- Before you claim, you must have at least one mare with you to be your partner/queen/whatever you wish to call her.
- To steal a land you must challenge the lead stallion of that land. To create a challenge, post your rules and terms in an in-character thread you are having with your opponent (i.e. your characters will argue in thread, and then one will be like "I challenge you to a match!" and then ooc will lay out the terms - number of attacks per user, dodges, misses, and whether it is to the death or a surrender fight). A staff member will then have to approve the match. The winner of the match gets all the land, the opportunity to rename the territory, and possession over all the horses who happened to live there.
BREEDING- Once your characters breed in thread, one of the users involved will have to PM a staff member both the sire and the dam's statistics and links to their bio. The staff member will then randomly generate a foal (this includes the foals health, its color, its height, blood-type, and gender) after one week has passed.
- The season your foal is born depends on its survival and condition at birth, remember that! Conceive wisely.
- Your mare must wait one in character year before she can give birth again.
CLAIMING/STEALING MARES- To claim a mare, simply have a thread with the mare of your choice and convince her to come along with you. You do not have to own land to claim a mare, and you must have at least one mare tagging along with you before you can claim land.
- To steal a mare, the same rules apply as stealing territory.
